Bill Gates is a very smart and intelligent man in the world today. He has helped in the computer business and is without a doubt in my mind, the most compelling male in the computer industry. Bill Gates serves as chairman and chief software architect of the Microsoft Corporation, the chief computer software company in the United States. He is also the wealthiest person in the world (Shelly, Cashman, Vermaat, Walker, Safdie, & Torri-Safdie, 2000). Bill did not just get this wealthy overnight; he had to work at it for many years.

Then came the day when Gates received the PHONE CALL that started it all. It was from his old buddy, Paul Allen. Paul was calling to tell Bill that there was a computer on the market that did not have software. And the dynamic duo got together and provided BASIC software for the computer. Gates dropped out of Harvard his junior year and devoted his time to Microsoft (A&E Television Networks, 2000).

In 1981 the IBM PC was established and Microsoft was becoming quite popular. The software market was introduced to many software programs, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. And by 1986, Gates was a billionaire at the young age of 31!! By 1993, Windows was selling a million copies a month. In 1995, Windows 95 was introduced and it sold seven million copies in the first six weeks. Bill’s accomplishments were absolutely amazing, he accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time. Bill also did get married in 1994 to Melinda French, a marketing executive at Microsoft. The couple has two children together (A&E Television Networks, 2000).

Bill is a very generous man. He does donate a lot of money towards education through scholarships.
